Two Claretians among Winners at the 2014 Catholic Press Association Awards

Two Claretian seminarians, Francisco Javier Reyes (right) and Ray Smith (left), were among the winners of Catholic Press Association awards on June 20th, at the 2014 Catholic Media Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. They were honored for “Best Coverage of Vocations” for their ¡OYE! 2014 articles, “¿Quién te dijo que tú no puedes? / Who said you can’t?” by Francisco Javier Reyes, CMF, and “La llamada al fuego / The call to fire” by Ray Smith, CMF. Reyes’ article told the story of his fellow seminarian Ricardo Rangel, while Smith’s piece focused on overcoming difficulties in one’s vocational journey.

This year our own Claretian Publications won a total of 34 awards—18 from the Catholic Press Association, which also included U.S. Catholic’s first-place award in the overall General Excellence category, and 16 from the Associated Church Press, including At Home with Our Faith’s first-place Award of Excellence in the newsletter category.
