St. Anthony Claret Parish in Fresno Celebrates the “Fiesta de la Cosecha”
At the end of September every year, St. Anthony Claret Parish in Fresno joins with the surrounding ranches to celebrate the blessings of the year’s local grape harvest from the many orchards that surround the area. This gathering is an opportunity for the parishioners who work in the fields or packing houses to celebrate the end of a bountiful season, to renew old friendships, and to say farewell until the following spring as they leave for work in other regions.
This event also invites community members to bring their goods to sell, providing them with a little extra income before winter. Venders rent booths from the parish, and numerous parish organizations sell delicious food for all to enjoy. Our Guadalupana organization collects funds for its December Novena for Our Lady of Guadalupe. Dance and music groups also share their talents in hopes of making contact for future special events. The fiesta is a great way to make a little money for special parish projects and gives the parishioners the chance to visit and enjoy each other’s company.
As winter arrives and jobs in the community slow down, we give thanks for the many blessings received.
